Abdur Razzak, a 40-year-old rickshaw puller from Manikganj, developed cancer in his right parotid gland. The disease was very advanced and his overlying skin was affected. We removed the cancer, along with the skin,leaving a wide gap that we covered with the chest muscle. After staying the hospital, he was advised to take radiotherapy treatment within 45 days. Unfortunately, he could not afford the treatment. So the disease returned. We operated on him for the second time. This time, we the doctors, along with other gracious people, offered him support to ensure his radiotherapy treatment. He is the sole provider of the family. Because of his suffering, he cannot pull his rickshaw and is consequently unable to afford food for his family members. His days are hard, but he continues to fight for his life.
